Mitch Leathem (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Kahu, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Whatua) is an experienced practitioner of Ahoake Rongoā, specialising in mirimiri, romiromi and mahi a wheua.

Ahoake Clinic — Mirimiri, Romiromi and Mahi a Wheua - Traditional Maori Bodywork

At Ahoake, we specialise in Mirimiri, Romiromi, and Mahi a Wheua, traditional Māori healing practices that support the body, mind, and spirit.

Most of our healing sessions are fully funded through:
- ACC Injury or Sensitive Claim
- Tūwharetoa Health
- Instep EAP (Employee Assistance Programme)

Private sessions are also available.

All sessions are in clinic and fully clothed. Please wear comfy clothes, not jeans. You will need to hydrate after each session to ensure all toxins shifted within the tinana are eliminated from the body throughout the following 24+ hours.

If you have any pātai or questions, please contact Mitch - 021510518

Your session may include:

TAKUTAKU

A sacred incantation to open the space, close the space, clear energy, and set the intention for your healing. Like karakia, takutaku connects us to the wairua (spiritual realm) and the protection and guidance of our tīpuna.

WHAKAWHITI KŌRERO

A kōrero to understand what has brought you here. We take time to explore the state of your tinana (body), hinengaro(mind), and wairua (spirit), and to align our approach with your needs.

MIRIMIRI

A gentle and intuitive form of bodywork that supports the release of tension and energetic blockages. This deeply grounding practice restores natural flow, harmony, and balance.

ROMIROMI

A deeper, more focused practice involving pressure points (haemata), muscle release, and energy realignment. Romiromi addresses long-held trauma or imbalance, restoring deeper awareness and connection.

MAHI A WHEUA

Techniques that work directly with the bones and structural integrity of the body. Mahi a Wheua helps to realign the physical foundation of the tinana and support holistic wellness.

HOMEWORK

To extend your healing beyond the clinic, you may receive personalised practices, movements, or rituals to support your journey. These might include traditional Māori practices, grounding techniques, or ways to deepen your connection with nature and your wairua.

Homework may also include exercises, stretches, mobility techniques, creative expression, journaling, or breathwork—practical tools to help you shift energy, support your tinana, and bring clarity to the hinengaro in real time. These practices are offered to help you foster a stronger state of hauora not just during the session, but as part of your everyday life—creating habits that uplift and sustain your wellbeing on every level.

Mitch

Rongoā Practitioner and Rongoā Kaiako
Mitch's journey into hauora began at a young age when she began learning from her nani in the early 1980's in Tūrangi where she grew up. This sparked a passion for natural and traditional healing practices. Over the years, she has continuously expanded her knowledge and understanding, completing a Bachelors in Applied Science Human Biology then going on to a Masters in Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. Now Mitch loves learning about all forms of rongoā, from bodywork to rakau preparation.
